About 20 miles from Underwood, up through the A38 and A615 into the Derwent valley.
Matlock sits in the Derwent valley on the edge of the Peak District, roughly 20 miles from our Underwood base. We cover the town along with Matlock Bath, Darley Dale, Tansley, Wirksworth and Cromford: the villages along the valley and up the surrounding hillsides.
The property here is different from our valley-floor Nottinghamshire work. Much of it is gritstone or limestone, solid-walled, sometimes listed or in a conservation area, with thick walls, deep window reveals and a lot of exposure to wind and weather. Heating sized for a modern insulated house will not keep these properties comfortable, which is why heat loss is calculated room by room rather than assumed.
Matlock is also higher and colder than the areas closer to Nottingham. Winter here is longer and harder on a system: condensate freezes more readily, older systems struggle to hold temperature on the worst nights, and hard water from the limestone geology scales combi heat exchangers faster. All of that is factored into what we specify.
Being further out, we schedule Matlock work to planned slots for services, surveys and installations, with breakdowns given a same or next-day visit wherever the diary allows during our opening hours, Monday to Friday 8:00am to 6:30pm and Saturday 8:30am to 12:00pm. Work is domestic only, and landlord CP12 certificates are from £85 + VAT with a service.
