Solid brick walls, tall ceilings and large sash windows mean heat loss well above what the floor area suggests. Radiators put in decades ago are frequently too small, so the room never reaches temperature no matter how long the boiler runs.

These houses have also had pipework altered repeatedly, gravity systems converted to pumped, microbore added to 22mm, radiators moved when kitchens were extended.
