Local Coverage

Heating engineers covering Chesterfield and north Derbyshire

Around 18 miles from Underwood, a straight run up the M1 to junction 29.

Chesterfield sits about 18 miles north of us, straight up the M1. We cover the town and the residential areas around it: Brampton, Newbold, Hasland, Walton, Whittington, Brimington and Staveley, along with the villages spreading west towards the Peak District fringe.

The building stock is a mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraces close to the centre, large post-war estates built for the coal and engineering industries, 1960s and 70s semis, and newer development around the edges. Several parts of the town also sit on noticeably sloping ground, which affects mains water flow to properties higher up and therefore what kind of boiler will actually deliver good hot water.

Chesterfield is higher and more exposed than the Trent valley, so winters here are harder on a heating system. Frozen condensate lockouts, systems that cannot hold temperature on the coldest nights, and marginal components failing in a cold snap are all common, and all avoidable with the right specification and an annual service.

Services, surveys and installations in Chesterfield are booked into planned slots, and breakdowns get a same or next-day visit wherever the diary allows during our opening hours of Monday to Friday 8:00am to 6:30pm and Saturday 8:30am to 12:00pm. All work is domestic, including landlord CP12 certificates from £85 + VAT with a service.

What that means for Chesterfield

Chesterfield and around

Brampton, Newbold, Hasland, Walton, Whittington, Brimington and Staveley.

Straight up the M1

About 18 miles from Underwood via junction 29, so travel is quick and predictable.

Ex-industrial housing

Terraces and large post-war estates with layered heating alterations and heavy system sludge.

Colder, higher ground

Exposure means condensate routing and correct sizing matter more here than on the valley floor.

Why Us

Why Chesterfield homeowners and landlords call us

Every claim on this page comes from our own accreditations, insurance and published prices: nothing invented, nothing exaggerated.

23 years in the trade since 2003

Chris Smith served an apprenticeship at British Gas, worked for E.ON and Vaillant, and set up CSGHP Ltd in 2019: the same engineer surveys, quotes and completes the work.

Prices agreed before work starts

£80 + VAT diagnostic visits including the first hour, servicing from £75 + VAT, CP12 certificates from £85 + VAT with a service, and free written quotes on installations.

Specified for the property

Heat loss calculated room by room and mains flow measured before we recommend a boiler, important on Chesterfield's higher, sloping ground.

Accredited, insured, guaranteed

Gas Safe No. 593241, Baxi approved installer, Vaillant registered installer, ACS, City & Guilds NVQ Level 3, G3, BPEC, APHC and WaterSafe, £2m public liability cover, and a 12-month workmanship guarantee on most work.

Local Property Issues

Common Chesterfield heating faults, by property type

Ex-industrial housing, hilly ground and colder winters make for a recognisable set of recurring problems.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces

Solid brick walls and tall rooms near the town centre mean high heat loss and, very often, radiators that were undersized when the heating was retrofitted. The house never quite warms up and the boiler runs far longer than it should to compensate.

Pipework in these properties has typically been altered by several installers. We check pipe sizing and flow before quoting anything, because a modern boiler on restricted, sludged microbore will not perform however good the boiler is.

Post-war estates and 1960s–70s semis

Hasland, Newbold, Staveley and the surrounding estates carry a lot of housing on its second or third heating system. Redundant pipework, layered controls, unbalanced circuits and diverter valves that have never been touched are routine findings.

Decades of untreated system water leave heavy magnetite: radiators cold at the bottom, a labouring pump, blocked microbore. Where testing confirms it, we power flush, dose fresh inhibitor and recommend a magnetic filter before any new boiler goes on.

Sloping ground and hot water performance

Properties on the higher streets around Brampton, Newbold and Walton can see reduced mains flow and pressure, and a combi cannot deliver its rated hot water output without adequate flow. Fitting a bigger combi does not fix a mains limitation.

We measure flow rate and static pressure at survey. If the mains will not support the hot water you want, we recommend a system boiler with an unvented cylinder, and we are G3 qualified and WaterSafe registered to install and commission one correctly.

Cold, exposed winters

Chesterfield's altitude and exposure produce a reliable run of frozen condensate lockouts each winter on boilers whose condensate was run outside in narrow pipe without insulation. Internal routing, or an upsized insulated external run, solves it permanently.

The same conditions expose components that were already marginal: a flat expansion vessel, a worn pump, a scaled heat exchanger. An annual service from £75 + VAT is how those get found in autumn rather than during a January cold snap.

Our Process

How a Chesterfield job runs, step by step

The same sequence on every visit, so you always know what happens next and what it costs before it happens.

  1. 1

    Call or send the form

Tell us the postcode, the property and the symptom. We confirm what the visit costs before we set off.

  2. 2

    Inspection on site

Boiler, controls, radiators, cylinder and system water all checked: not just the part that stopped.

  3. 3

    Diagnosis and written price

You get the cause, the options and a price. Repairs beyond the first hour are quoted before we carry on.

  4. 4

    The work carried out

Dust sheets down, gas work signed off by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and the area left clean.

  5. 5

    Testing and commissioning

Gas rate and combustion checked, system rebalanced, controls set up and hot water performance verified.

  6. 6

    Handover and guarantee

We show you what was done, leave the paperwork, and back most work with a 12-month workmanship guarantee.

From £75 + VAT, which also keeps a manufacturer warranty of 5, 7 or 10 years valid.

Yes: a free survey and a fixed written price, with payment on completion and a deposit in some situations.

Do you issue landlord gas safety certificates in Chesterfield?

Yes. CP12 certificates from £85 + VAT with a service, and any remedial work is estimated in writing before it is carried out.

My boiler keeps locking out in cold weather. Why?

In an exposed area like Chesterfield the usual cause is a frozen external condensate pipe. Re-routing internally or upsizing and insulating the external run prevents it recurring.

Why is my hot water weak upstairs?

On Chesterfield's higher streets it is often limited mains flow rather than the boiler. We measure it and, where needed, recommend a system boiler and unvented cylinder instead of another combi.

Do you take on commercial work in Chesterfield?

No. We work on domestic property only.
